An interest in craft beer turned into a passion for an industry that values collaboration, community, and quality. A love of fine dining evolved into a desire to open a true destination eatery. These combined interests led the father and son team of Alan and Bob Szuter to create Wolf’s Ridge Brewing, a micro-brewery, restaurant and small business with a focus on people, culture and creating unforgettable experiences for guests. Alan spent years crisscrossing the country as a business consultant and in city after city, he found the local micro-brewing community to be thriving.
His son Bob thought that his dad’s idea could be the perfect counterpart for his dream of opening a fine dining establishment. “When I was living in Chicago, going out to eat was something that was really special, something you anticipated,” remembers Bob. “I wanted to create that same feeling here.” The father and son team knew they wanted to open a place where authenticity, creativity and craft were front and center. “We try to get better at what we do every day,” says Alan. “Dining and drinking is an experience that’s meant to be shared and enjoyed.”
Established in 2013, Wolf’s Ridge has grown into one of Columbus’ premier dining and drinking destinations, winning numerous local and national awards for their food and drink programs that have become synonymous with quality, inventiveness, and approachability.
I started really developing an interest in craft beer, and I had the opportunity to really start engaging. I was able to start homebrewing. And the science and the art really pulled me in.
We continuing try to provide the best possible everything we can, every year, every day. And that means beer, that means food, that means experience, cocktails, wine, absolutely everything
I think cooking is more science focused—it's chemistry. But the artistry really comes out when you're actually plating the food up.
Wolf's Ridge Brewing allows me the freedom to put myself on a plate with each new menu.
When it comes to inspiration in the kitchen a feeling of nostalgia goes a long way.
I'm trying to respect the past brewing tradition and history, classic styles, classic ingredients but then also pushing the boundaries.
A curiosity and a passion for learning led to my desire to teach people about the ever evolving world of craft beer.
Beer softens the temper, reduces anxiety, and most importantly helps to bring people together in the moment.
I value the quality of craft and locality, guest experience, fellow employee growth, charitable work, and sustainability.
I'm grateful to work for a family-owned Columbus company that enables me the creative freedom to help shape its brand and identity.
